Terrestrial and Wetland Science

Many of our clients’ projects require a thorough understanding of the interconnected relationships between terrestrial and aquatic environments which includes wetlands. Wetlands provide a variety of important functional benefits to society such as clean drinking water and flood attenuation, in addition to important biological functions such as fish and wildlife habitat. Prior to the regulation of these habitats, the loss of wetlands through filling or draining was occurring at a rapid pace. As a result, Federal and State Agencies now regulate impacts to wetlands with the goal of maintaining wetlands as an important resource to both citizens and the environment.

In some cases impacts to wetlands cannot be avoided. Our scientists are familiar with working with clients and regulators to avoid and minimize wetland impacts, which typically reduces project costs and streamlines the permitting effort. In cases where mitigation is needed, Kleinschmidt provides full-service, multidisciplinary design and monitoring.
