Conceptual Engineering

Conceptual Engineering

Following the data gathering and agency consultation phase, our team can provide conceptual engineering design for the proposed fish passage alternative in order to further develop cost considerations for the proposed fish passage project.

Our Fish Passage Engineers have extensive experience preparing conceptual designs for upstream and downstream fish passage.  The product of the conceptual design process can take the form of engineered drawings, 3D or photographic renderings, written narrative, or a combination of these. Conceptual level engineered drawings typically include a plan and profile (longitudinal) view of the existing site structures, as well plan, profile, and section views depicting the general configuration and major features of the proposed fish passage structures. The drawings will include conceptual details such as overall dimensions and elevations, layout of the fish passage components, layout of the attraction water system and flow control devices, and water surface elevations at various flows. Given that the drawings represent conceptual designs, they do not include all of the details required for actual construction. There may also be design requirements, such as public access and viewing facilities, tied to construction funding.

As part of the conceptual design process our team can also prepare conceptual opinions of probable construction cost for the proposed structures, based on our database of historical costs and industry standard cost indices’.
