Existing Facility and Equipment Condition Assessments

Existing Facility and Equipment Condition Assessments

Technical condition assessments are an important tool in managing and operating the aging North American hydroelectric infrastructure. Existing facility and equipment condition assessments help an owner/operator to understand both the limitations and potential of an existing facility. Independent inspections and evaluations of station components and facilities such as penstocks, power station buildings, intakes, and earth retaining structures are used for the early detection and cost effective resolution of deterioration and problems. Generating equipment problems can be resolved by judicious testing and data evaluation to help reveal the root cause of operating problems. Comprehensive condition assessments performed during the planning stages of a redevelopment or expansion project help to determine if it is more efficient and cost effective to either repair, rehabilitate, or replace various components.
