Wetland Hydrology

Wetland scientists refer to hydrology as the most important component of wetland ecosystems. Small changes in wetland hydrology can significantly affect the chemical and physical properties of a wetland. When hydrologic conditions in wetlands change, plant species composition can shift and ecosystem productivity can decline. Because hydrology plays a vital role in the structure of a wetland's ecosystem, particularly by acting as the main pathway in which nutrients are transported in and out of the system, the vegetation and species composition are significantly affected when natural or manmade hydrologic alterations occur.

Our ecological engineering professionals work in cooperation with our wetland and terrestrial scientists as well as our fisheries and aquatic scientists to solve complex wetland habitat issues. These services are utilized for wetland habitat restorations as well as creating new wetland habitat.
