Kim Hansen has 45 years of hydropower-specific experience and specializes in designing hydro development and rehabilitation projects and performing dam safety reviews. He conducts reconnaissance studies and due diligence and prepares feasibility reports for new hydro development and redevelopment at existing sites. Kim has participated in 11 new design/build and several other conventionally constructed hydropower developments including designing powerhouses, dams, gates, and other water conveyance structures. He conducts general project condition assessments and detailed structural analyses of existing hydropower facilities and dams. Kim is Kleinschmidt’s company-wide Structural Engineering Technical Advisor, providing input into technical approach, technical guidance during project implementation, and quality control review of deliverables for structural engineering-related projects.
Kim is a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)-approved independent consultant for Part 12 dam safety inspections and has conducted more than 100 Part 12 inspections involving timber crib, timber buttress, concrete gravity, concrete buttress, arch, Ambursen, and labyrinth dams. He is currently serving on the board of the Midwest Hydro Users Group and is a past chair of the Dam Safety Committee. Kim graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.
