My name is Nathan Cauten, and I’m a Civil Engineering student at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, with a minor in Integrated Information Technology. I’m on track to graduate in May 2026. I chose to intern at Kleinschmidt because I wanted to be part of something meaningful—working for a company that’s making a real impact on communities and the environment. When I met Heather and Jon at the USC career fair, their energy and pride in their work stood out to me and confirmed that Kleinschmidt was the right fit.
I’m still exploring which area of civil engineering I’ll pursue long-term, but I’m especially interested in structural, water resources, and environmental engineering. Above all, I want to work somewhere that values doing good for people and the planet—and where I can see the tangible results of my contributions. This internship has been a great step in that direction.
